It was just M and me today, as Mom was doing things to get ready for her big trip in a couple of weeks. She and my sister will be going to Vermont to see my cousin's daughter graduate from high school, and then go on to Paris! That will be a fun trip, no doubt. (I'm only a little bit bummed that I get to be here, experiencing their fun through postcards.) I do not have any desire to travel in the state I am in right now.
We started looking through Criterion, and one of the headline collections had this title in it. M asked me if I had seen it, and when I said no, that was it. So we watched this original 1950 noir classic. It was remade in 1992 starring Drew Barrymore, but this was the original with unknown actors and an unknown director, at least to me. Very interesting, watchable movie in which both sides of the couple are fantastic with a gun, but it is the woman who likes killing, while the guy doesn't want to see anyone hurt. I had fun watching it, and it was refreshing to see a movie with violence but no blood.

Here it was finally! The day of the mammogram I haven't had in at least four years. As I hadn't lived in Honolulu for at least 30 years, I had lost all conception of how long it took to get anywhere, so I had allowed an hour to get to a place that was 20 minutes away. On top of that, the taxi picked us up early, so we got to my appointment 45 minutes ahead of time. My sister met us there just after we got into the room with the same machine I had used on Maui.
Mom spent the appointment in the waiting room, as the room was not big enough for everyone. There was me and my wheelchair, my sister, and two technicians. I am good with maneuvering the chair, but I have been spending most days in bed, so my fine motor functioning has decreased along with my left hand. I had memories of being able to get into position, but that was years ago when I was much more able to move. As it was, I could not straighten up and hug the machine the way I needed to, and we eventually had to give up.
“Some people can't get a mammogram,” the technician said. Apparently, I am now one of those people. I would be upset, except the prospect of NOT having to pancake my boob every few years is not something to cry about, I think. We eliminated my ability to do a colonoscopy a while ago, and now this! Hey, I'm going to count this in the win column and move on. To counter any worries my readers may have for me, I will crank my manifestation for good health up a notch.

I know that sounds a bit wishy-washy, but I do have some evidence for extrasensory perceptions with my cats, and lately, when I take the time to listen, I do well with the Wordle. Saturday and Sunday I solved it in two moves! Some letters speak to me, and I know I need to include them in the word. I see what word pops into my head, and I start with that or a variation of that word. No pressure for Monday, ha ha.

Dr R showed up without Freddie today. She had finally bought a harness for him, but he did not like wearing it. She had put it on him, and then the workers, who were doing some construction on her townhouse, showed up, and he ran under the couch where she could not reach him. We talked about other things, and I tried to remember what I should discuss with her. I should write it down when I think of it.
Mom came by at lunch to say hi and feed me. She showed up just as I was starting to watch the latest episode of the show ”100 FT Wave” on Max. It is a show following Garrett McNamara, a famous big wave surfer who lives on Oahu. Mom, like me, likes to watch surfing, so I started the episode from the beginning, and we watched it together.
This episode was about a remote surf spot about 100 miles from San Diego in the middle of the ocean. There is a submerged island that creates big waves every once in a while when the conditions are right. Six surfers and all the safety equipment and gear headed out, and they surfed all day. Amazing! I recommend the show.

Mom came by again today! She doesn't usually visit two days in a row, but she is visiting while she can, as there will be a drastic shortage of time with me pretty soon. My sister will also be using the time away to show Mom the joys of ride-sharing. Once she gets comfortable with the app, I'm sure it will be fine.

My sister went to Safeway after yoga to get sushi and supplies. I wasn't thrilled with the sushi from there the last time I had it, but then she texted that the sushi chef was custom-making me a veggie roll with shrimp. Yippee! They also had a lot of snacks I like and some Olay facial moisturizer that I needed. Perfect!
I immediately had the custom roll for lunch, and it was nice and light, and I had all 10 pieces and did not feel that full feeling like I ate too much. My sister made over a dozen snack bags from the snacks she bought. I was not out of snacks, and now I have a whole new supply! (Maybe I will take advantage of my bounty and eat my snacks a little bit faster. Just a little bit.)
For dinner I had half of the California roll (5 of 10 pieces), and unfortunately, this chef had decided that a small sliver of avocado was enough. Wrong! I couldn't see, much less taste it, and I did not want crab with rice and a touch of cucumber. I will have to let my sister know what to look out for with the California roll.
Sunday, May 18th
Mom stopped by after church, and she caught me freshly showered. We played a few games and really just hung out for a bit. She also tidied up to make sure everything was in the right place before she left me. Thanks Mom!
The rest of the day I wrote Monday through Wednesday of the blog and then watched a movie. I love that the iPad Hello feels like my own private screening room. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the Criterion Channel? I do find that I am not as adventuresome as I thought I would be. I usually enjoy seeing movies again that I've already seen. I'd say it was about a 65/35 split of old and new.
I wanted to take a photo of a new T-shirt I have, but my helper couldn't find it, so instead M took a shot of Mom and me for this week. Nice! Have a fabulous week!
