“Death On The Nile” 9/22-28/25

Monday, September 22nd

Somehow, we got on the subject of Agatha Christie, definitely a good source for stories, and ended up watching this 1978 film directed by John Guillermin. There is a bevy of stars from the '70s that I guess kids these days won't be familiar with, but I know and love. Part of the parade of stars includes David Niven, Angela Lansbury, George Kennedy, Peter Ustinov, a young Mia Farrow, and a young Maggie Smith as the assistant to grand dame Bette Davis. (Prime often misspells someone's name as she was listed as Bette David.)

The film was long and moved slowly, and Mom and I both dozed off at some point while we were watching. There was half an hour of the film to go when Mom and M left, but it was included with Prime, so we could go back to it for free anytime. I never did because I wasn't that interested. I doubt we will go back to it next Monday.

I forgot to tell you last week about my Facebook adventures. I use Passwords on my iPad, which is handy, and I noticed I had two different entries for Facebook. Why? Then I noticed the passwords were not quite right; there were extra letters in them. I had been hacked, and they had changed my password, so it looked like I had Facebook as usual, but everything went to them. I immediately got rid of the Facebook app I was using and downloaded a new version of it. Then I changed my Facebook password to something completely different. My website connects to Facebook, so I can post a link to an article I just made, and that part had not been working properly. This was why! Once I cleaned everything up, it worked fine! I was very proud of myself.

Wednesday, September 24th

I really enjoyed my shower this morning, as my helper last Sunday had not been able to give me a shower. My regular morning CNA was on vacation. She really makes an effort to get things, like showers, done. Other people, not so much sometimes, and I don't want to push things and get a quick, resentful shower. It's just not worth it.

J&B both visited, which was wonderful! They brought Spring rolls from Whole Foods again, this time with extra avocado sauce! (I was choosing to ignore the eggroll wrapper. There were only three rolls instead of four, so a little less gluten.) I need a loud, fun text notification sound, so he is going to look into that. Ideally, it would be something quick, not a song that goes on for a while. My sister and I found an app with an OK sound, but the download instructions require a laptop to get the sound onto my tablet. Yikes! I'll find something…

Thursday, September 25th

I actually attempted to connect with Freddie this morning. It felt like a one-way conversation, but when she came and Dr R put Freddie on my bed, he definitely sat with me for a few minutes before he rushed back to the stroller. He even sat on my hand, which was wonderful since I had not felt a cat leaning against me for a long time.

Friday, September 26th

A came by and worked on my hand while we spoke about her brother-in-law, who was recovering from his stroke. He seemed to be recovering his mental faculties very quickly, which was rather astonishing. He had moved to a rehab facility, but would be there for about a week or so more before he moved again to a residential setting. Damn insurance.

I watched some Black Rabbit on Netflix and was amazed at how pedestrian Jude Law was without his British accent. Sure, he was still gorgeous, but if I were just listening to the show, I couldn't distinguish him from Jason Bateman. Yikes! My sister said the show was filmed in New York, near where she used to live, so she was curious to see that.

Saturday, September 27th

My sister was attending a conference all day for work, so Mom stopped by after lunch. We did some puzzles, and then my stepbrother and his wife came by with shrimp pad Thai! We chatted with them about their recent trip to Kauai and about their daughter, who is expecting her first child in a bit. Her mom and I joked that she should talk to her doctor and ignore the bad advice from the administration about pain relievers and vaccines. (Fevers can be dangerous for pregnant women, and even the Amish get autism.)

My sister came by after the conference and after everyone else had left. She had gone to a favorite place and had gotten fish tacos for her own dinner. She ate and fed me, and basically had to leave as it was a working weekend for her. She would try to stop by tomorrow so she could make me new bags of snacks.

Sunday, September 28th

Mom stopped by after her art class and fed me lunch. My sister came by and made my snack bags while she and my mom discussed something I can't remember at the moment! (I guess it wasn't that important?) Then they both left, and I tried to start my blog but didn't get very far. Oh well, I thought, I will write it starting at 6 AM tomorrow and get it completed on Monday. And you know what? I did!

I have started wearing an eyepatch on my left eye because my right eye is lazy, and that is what is causing my double vision. When I wear a temporary Band-Aid over my left eye, it forces my right eye to work harder, and I see better out of both eyes when I take the patch off. The idea is that after a while, the right eye will be good enough to see out of all the time.

I also have gotten some wrist weights so I can exercise my left hand, as it has been getting very, very weak. I got some flak because I have wrist weights now, but they are ugly and not adjustable. These are light green and very adjustable. I am only using half a pound of weight on my wrist, which is enough to build strength and not overwhelm my arm. I had M take a picture of me with all my stuff for the cover photo today! Have a great week!
