“Ssssss” - 10/20-26/25

Monday, October 20th

There was a class at the Art Academy that Mom wanted to take, so she would not be able to watch movies with M and I for six weeks. We were free to pick something without taking her into consideration. M remembered seeing this movie when he was a child, and it freaked him out.

He wanted to revisit it as an adult, although he knew it would not have the same impact. He did not know if it was available to rent. Let's see, "I said, and I opened Prime Video. M typed in the Sses and the movie came up! I was in the mood for something silly, so we watched it.

When the movie started, M called out, It's Face! Since we are the same age, I understood he was referring to the character from the classic 80s TV show, The A-team. At first, I didn't think it was the same actor, but then the credits started, and there it was, Dirk Benedict! We would get to see some of his early work before he joined forces with Mr. T and George Peppard.

The movie was very silly but watchable until the very end. The evil scientist was giving Dirk daily injections to transform him into a snake, and it was all very gradual until the very end, when he went from a person with green makeup and his legs fused together to an actual snake in five minutes. Nope! I don't buy it. It was a fun waste of an afternoon.

Tuesday, October 21st

Today was not very eventful until the afternoon, when the water main broke for the whole neighborhood. I was glad it was not my shower day as they handed out bottles of water to drink.

Wednesday, October 22nd

Luckily, the water was back on for my shower! And I was looking forward to seeing J this afternoon. When it came time, both J&B showed up with a nice big rainbow roll from Whole Foods. As we ate, J talked about how real Japanese sushi chefs would not make a role so big. Yeah, I said, isn't it great? As he placed the large piece into my mouth. My cheeks bulged as I chewed and savored every morsel. Heaven! Another indication of the size of the roll was that I was able to save four pieces for dinner and extend my enjoyment. Wonderful!

Thursday, October 23rd

My sister was leaving this afternoon on a trip to Wisconsin and then Michigan for my dad's memorial service. That meant I had to finish writing the essay I wanted her to read. If I couldn’t be there, I could at least be part of the ceremony.

Dr. R dropped off Freddie in his stroller as usual and then came back an hour later for our session. He was on the bed for a bit, and I got to feel him walking on my legs. Loved that!

Friday, October 24th

A came by a little later than usual, and Mom came to give me lunch, so they saw each other. I love it when people who don‘t usually see each other get to meet, so that was fun. A knew my Mom, but Mom had not remembered her. It's more that since A was working with me, Mom had more of a reason to remember her.

I continued documenting my dad's life since his divorce from my mom in 1978. A lot to cover, and I didn’t get it done today. It did put me back in mind of when he was alive, and I contemplated it all day.

Saturday, October 25th

My sister was gone, and Mom did not stop by today, so I had the whole day to myself. I finished writing about Dad's life, and it ended rather depressingly. I realized I needed to talk about him. I like having the record of what happened to him, but that did not tell the story of who he was. It made me sad to think how much my father didn’t get to be his true self, how much he was consumed by his illness. Then I realized that my sister and I were his legacy. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.

Sunday, October 26th

Mom came by to give me lunch and watch another episode of The Pitt. We are almost at the end of the first season, and Mom was sad to hear she had to wait two months for another season. Horrors! I love re-watching the season, although it quickly makes me become emotional. It's an intense show.

Again, I didn’t start writing the blog today. I knew I would have time tomorrow morning, so I had fun tonight and watched Escape from New York. Not as good as I imagined it was. Nice to see Kurt Russell in his prime.

The cover photo this week is me in a T-shirt my sister gave me from a podcast we like to listen to about the Supreme Court called Strict Scrutiny. Look, my sister's a lawyer, so excuse me if I have merch with wonky legal phrases on it! This is Latin and basically means ‘stand by what has been decided’. This court is more than happy to throw out legal precedent and do what they want, which, so far, is okey-dokey with King Trump. Enough politics. Have a great week!

Very enjoyable reading about your week.
Sushi huh? You like sushi - good to know.

And you can share about your father with me. I’d love to hear about him and your youth!

See you soon!
