Monday, March 16th
My sister had planned on moving last Friday, but since it was raining on the 13th, she rescheduled the move till today. M had been a huge help with packing, and he was also helping with the move, so it was just Mom and I. It was supposed to be M’s pick, so I went instead and picked this movie that I wasn't sure if he would like. Mom had already seen that and had already forgotten what happened, so she was happy to refresh her memory, especially since Amy Madigan had just won the Oscar for her role in this movie.
I had watched the movie when it first became available on HBO, but I was eager to watch it again and really absorb it. The first time you watch a movie is great for the reactions you have, but subsequent viewings are good to see how everything fits together. The movie is so creepy and unsettling the first time you see it. This time, I could really appreciate how the film was constructed.
I was very happy to see that Mom was enjoying it as well. Most of the time, she gets bored and wanders off to do something else for the last 10 or 15 minutes of the movie. She is hard to please, and we did naturally take a break before the last half hour of the movie. I wasn't sure if she was going to come back, but she did, and she was glad she saw it. Yay! It's a really good movie, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

D1 was supposed to come today, but she was not feeling well, so she took the day off. That meant I had plenty of time to finish my blog and post it by the end of today. Well, I finished writing it today and posted it the next morning. You get the idea. I also added a Peacock/Apple TV bundle, and I was eager to watch The Traitors, so that slowed me down as well.
Wednesday, March 18th
There was supposed to be a Resident Council meeting today, so they should have gotten me in my wheelchair, but instead, I found out that the meeting was rescheduled to next week because of a possible Covid outbreak, so it was back in bed for me. I know I should get up, but it's really not fun to sit up when it‘s much more comfortable in bed. I figure I'm OK if I get in my chair once a week. That would've been today, but oh well…
Thursday, March 19th
Dr. R brought the stroller and Freddie today! We set up the tent, and he jumped on the bed as he does now. He wasn't as settled as he had been in past weeks, and he frequently went deeper into the blanket to hide from a noise or something. I might ask her to bring the kitties again next week because she will only have them for a few more weeks, and then they will go to the Hawaiian Humane Society. I have to remember to ask my sister about her cat and how she's doing. I'm torn about her adopting a cat for me because it would not know me very well, visiting me once a week.
Friday, March 20th
Mom went to Maui yesterday for the weekend to see my cousin’s children, who were back from college on spring break. So I had a few free days all to myself. I've been having lots of fun discovering things to watch on Peacock. I have at least six years of SNL to catch up on! I then started looking through what movies they have and put a bunch on my list to check out. I now like watching horror movies, although I like the more suspenseful, thriller ones more than the gory ones. There are, of course, a slew of scary movies to watch. So much content, so little time.
Saturday, March 21st
My sister had to wait for an appliance repairman before she could come to me, and then she had to leave in the afternoon to pick up Mom from the airport on her way back from Maui. I had told her I didn't mind going without sushi this weekend, but she had to shop for herself, so I got some anyway. I had texted her that I only needed 1 package of sushi instead of my usual two packages because I would be having visitors tomorrow, and they would be bringing food. She brought two packages because she's not into reading my texts closely. Give her a break! She's still recovering from the move! I am not complaining…
I had her help me cancel YouTube Premium, which would be nice, but I just don't go there often. I don't want to have to hunt for something, and I really don't want to watch a show in separate segments. That's why I have not seen SNL in so long. I do like watching Hot Ones, so I could binge that while I have it. I also had her sign me up for Hulu so I could watch a rebroadcast of the Oscars. My sister made me a playlist of video clips from the Oscars because I wasn't sure if that was the only way I could see it. Very unsatisfying. (Sunday night, I watched the whole ceremony on Hulu. Much better!)
Sunday, March 22nd
Two of my high school classmates came to visit me at lunch today! They brought me a chicken salad from Guava Smoked that I asked for. One of my classmates lives here in Honolulu and has visited me before. The other classmate lives in the Bay Area and is a published author six times over. (It still gives me pause a little because I compare my classmates to when I knew them 40 years ago. Get over it, Ellen! Grow up!) Anyway, we were not huge friends in high school, and I have commented on his posts on Facebook, but I was mildly (?) surprised that he was aware of my essays on my website and liked them.
He also brought me a signed copy of his latest book, a comprehensive tome on Bruce Lee and Asian Americans. I was honored that he gave me the book, but unfortunately, I'm in no shape to actually read it. So he also sent me a gift of the audiobook, which he said was well done. Cool! I will give the book to my sister, who can read and display it with pride! We had a really good hang about all sorts of things, and I believe I have a new texting friend to keep in touch with. Fabulous! He reads my blog too, so hello J! (Something in me always cringes a little when I end a sentence with a preposition, but I want the blog to be conversational, so please forgive me.)
The cover photo this week is of me with my two classmates. I am careful to keep things anonymous for anyone but me, but the photos give things away if you know what someone looks like. I always get permission before I use someone‘s picture, so I guess I'm saying it's their own fault if something bad happens because of my blog photo. I don't think anything ever would because nothing bad ever happens on the Internet. J also complimented me on the photographs! I didn't realize I was doing a good job with the photos as well! Good for me. Have a great week!
