It was Mom‘s turn to pick a movie, and I suggested we watch this one since it had recurred a few times on both her and M's lists. That suggestion sounded good to her, and since the movie was two hours and 45 minutes long, we started watching it as soon as everyone got here. Nice!
This 1973 epic stars Paul Newman as the architect who designed the building and, since it is only just finished, is still involved. Steve McQueen plays the fire chief trying to extinguish the blaze. Faye Dunaway, playing PN’s wife, gets fourth billing and is hardly in the movie. William Holden plays the scheming developer, and Richard Chamberlain, Fred Astaire, O.J. Simpson, and Roberts Vaughn and Wagner round out the all-star cast. It's your standard, run-of-the-mill 90+ story skyscraper that immediately catches fire because of the cheap wiring movie. You know that old trope.

D1, my regular masseuse, as I will refer to her now that I've just thought of a way to distinguish the two Ds, came and immediately made a note to bring the cockroach stuff she has that works really well. I will try to remember to send a reminder text, which I will do since I am writing this on the following Monday. I am well and truly infested with the hideous creatures. They are the one living thing I have no trouble killing.
Wednesday, March 11th
I'm not even sure if Mom visited for lunch because this week was so rainy, we got weather alerts on our phones about flash floods. Some people lost power, but not me! Since I live in a hospital (basically), I also have a generator for the entire building. Power outages are very brief, just a minute or two. Yes, weather and driving conditions make no difference to me. Usually, because I don‘t go anywhere. So that's the downside.

Dr. R showed up a little early, but she wasn’t pushing the stroller. No cat today? I asked. No Freddy, but I did bring the kitties. She had the cat carrier with her and set the two three-week-old kittens she had found on Sunday on my bed after she set up the tent. I was worried their meowing would be heard, but their teeny little lungs were not able to make much racket. Their heads are barely as big as a golf ball. Too damn cute!
They explored all over, especially climbing up Dr. R, and after about ten minutes, they collapsed, exhausted. She said they have brief patches of exploring, but mostly they sleep. After they fell asleep, I had her put them both on my chest! They eventually moved away, but it was very cute seeing them up close. My sister is moving into a house, and she would have room for another cat, but one of her current cats may have feline leukemia, so that may not happen. How horrible for her, sweetie.
Friday, March 13th
My sister had scheduled the movers for today, but since it was horrendously rainy and it was the 13th, she rescheduled for Monday. Mom came by at lunch, and we watched an episode of The Pitt. My sister texted because she wanted to ask Mom something. She made a comment that she hoped Mom wasn't with me because that meant she had driven in the rain, which wasn't great.
That made me think about how much I like that my mom gets me food from somewhere and comes over, and I should not assume that will always happen. I was very in favor of Mom not driving anymore. She can still get around with Uber or Lyft, but that would be a whole new set of apps she has to learn. I'm kind of waiting for my mom or my aunt (my mom‘s older sister) to get in an accident before either of them will stop driving. Hopefully, it will be a minor fender bender. I keep my fingers crossed.
Saturday, March 14th
Since my sister‘s move got rescheduled, I thought she might stop by today, and Mom had said she wanted to visit as well. My sister ended up getting busy with the move and said she would stop by tomorrow. Mom didn’t show up, which I was fine with since it was still rainy.
I had wanted my sister to sign me up with Peacock since I was very curious about the show The Traitors. Since my sister didn't visit, I thought to myself, "Sign up yourself. You can do it!" So I did, and I found out Peacock and Apple TV have a bundle, and I ended up getting both. I will cancel at some point, but I am also dying to watch Severance. And now I can! I ended the day watching the movie F1, since the Oscars are tomorrow.
Sunday, March 15th
My sister stopped by, but she was in a hurry. She arrived at the same time as my lunch tray, which was not my priority. I had her wrap twine around the ball of dirt we had wrapped in cloth. We had been overwatering the plant, and then we had overcorrected and dried it out too much. She wrapped it in twine so the ball would hold its shape, and I had her soak it in water for 10 minutes instead of 15. Hopefully, the plant can be saved.
I knew the Oscars were going to be shown on Hulu, so that‘s what I should have had her help me with. Instead, she had heard about them showing on YouTube, which was true, but would not start until 2029. She hurriedly signed me up for a family plan for YouTube. She, my mom, and I could share the cost. When my sister is rushed, I cannot easily change her mind. Of course, I was not able to watch the Oscars, which I was very irritated about. Last year, I watched it the following morning on YouTube. I thought I would do that again.
This week’s photo shows the teeny kitties and me. There's another photo at the end of the blog that just shows a close-up of the kitties lying on each other, asleep. The black kitten is so completely black that you can't see any detail of her face. I would caption this picture, ‘It's nice when your sister is also your pillow!’ Have a great week! (I'm going to start Severance now!)
