“Tuner” - 9/7-13/26

Monday, September 7th

I had warned Mom yesterday that it was her turn to pick a movie, and she had done her homework. She had looked at reviews and was interested in this new movie directed by Daniel Roher and starring Leo Woodall, Havana Rose Liu, and Dustin Hoffman. It is a blend of romance and robberies until the finish, when the criminal activity inevitably overwhelms the movie, and it ends somewhat ambiguously. We all enjoyed it!

Tuesday, September 8th

D1 gave me another good massage. Because they had started another round of drops in my ear, they were plugged all day yesterday and today. What a drag!

Wednesday, September 9th

I had the drops in my ear in the morning and spent all day looking forward to getting irrigated in the evening. That is what I assumed would happen because that's what happened during the first round. I didn't have to ask for anything; that is what happened. Imagine my surprise when the evening came, and I did not get irrigated. There was no order for the irrigation, and I knew I would have to wait until tomorrow morning. And the drops were done, so I didn't get those either. Argh!

Thursday, September 10th

I talked to the nurse in the morning, and she asked me why I didn't ask for an order to irrigate my ears. I was a bit stunned because I didn't have to ask the first time, and I didn't know that the drops and the order to irrigate are two separate things. The daytime nurse got the order and irrigated, but not much came out. My ears were finally cleared of the clog, though, so I didn't care. I could hear again!

Dr R and Freddie came, and he eagerly waited to jump on the bed and sat there the whole time! Perfect! Dr R and I were talking about different things, and then halfway through my session, I noticed the date in the upper corner of my iPad. Tomorrow would be the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Yikes.

That got me thinking of that day and all the awful things that happened. Of course, that got me weeping, but I thought it was a good thing to remember what happened and the horror of it.

Friday, September 11th

Mom visited at lunch, and then my sister came by as well. My sister had planned on spending a lot of the month on the Big Island of Hawai'i for a trial. Her client ended up taking a plea deal, so there was no trial. She had a place reserved and decided to take a working break and invited Mom to stay with her for the weekend. So they were both visiting today, as I would be alone for the weekend. Mom finished her visit and then went home to pack.

My sister wanted to hear my memories of 9/11, which were mostly memories of what she told me about her experiences that day. The most amazing thing was that she gave showers to two of the people who made it out of the building that day. One of them was named Ellen. Wow. It made me feel like I was there in spirit.

That evening I continued my remembrances by watching United 93 on Peacock. I was watching it and trying to let myself fall asleep at the same time. I got so caught up in the movie I was actually hoping they could land the plane, but when they did not make it into the cockpit, I realized the victory was forcing the plane to crash before they got to their target.

Saturday, September 12th

Apparently, I am a glutton for punishment, as I really wanted to watch World Trade Center on Peacock this morning. It's incredible to me how anyone could have survived being crushed by a 110-story building, but they did! I had forgotten that the movie was directed by Oliver Stone and stars Nicholas Cage and Michael Peña. Very well done.

My sister had brought sushi and kale salad yesterday, so I had that for lunch and dinner. I am a little astonished at how much I love eating the vegetable sushi. I still love tuna, but I am very aware I am eating raw fish.

Sunday, September 13th

Mom would not be back until Tuesday, so I had a quiet day to myself. Mom had gotten a big lunch for herself the day before she left and had given some of it to me. That's what I had for lunch today along with the rest of the kale salad. I was in the mood to procrastinate doing my blog, which is why I am writing this so late.

I had my sister and mom take a picture so I could use it for the blog. The cover photo is of them standing by the fireplace. There is a full-length version at the end of the blog because I know you all can't get enough pictures of my family. More content! Anyway, have a great week!
