Monday, July 21st

M suggested this movie and it was fine to both of us. I think he thought it fit this moment in time. The movie is from 1976 and is directed by Sydney Lumet. It stars William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Peter Finch and a young Robert Duvall. A very prescient movie for our age. It's about time we all got mad as hell and stopped accepting things the way they are (or what they look like they're going to be.)

My most sincere apologies as I have completely forgotten what happened today. I did remember that I forgot to mention last week that my 103 year old neighbor finally reached her expiration date and left with her family. That sounds a bit harsh but I have spent months listening to the CNAs trying to convince her to eat or drink something. I really wanted to scream ‘let her die in peace!’. I understand no one can just let someone starve themselves but just ask once and then let it go. No matter what, it was going to end with her passing away. That was inevitable. Rest in peace, D.

Wednesday, July 23rd

My high school classmate J visited me today at 11 AM and brought me a wonderful little plant as a gift! I guess he thought he needed to give me something to show how sorry he was that it had been such a long time since he had seen me. He was very justified in not coming as he had been dealing with a lot of different things. I also do not expect anyone to visit me. It's much easier to be pleasantly surprised then it is to be disappointed. In any case, it was great to see him again and he pledged to start visiting regularly.

I thought J&B were supposed to show up but B wasn't feeling well. J had made some food for me and Mom had picked it up so she came by after noon, chatted with J and then gave me the food she had brought. J had duplicated a recipe from France when J&B had gone there. It was fried chickpea pieces of dough with a garlic aïoli and sautéed strips of onion, bell pepper, and eggplant. The vegetables were sautéed until they were soft and yummy. It was incredible! Onions and garlic make anything extra good and this was especially amazing! Thank you so much J&B!!

Thursday, July 24th

Little did I know that I was going to get up in my chair today! The state assessors were here and they wanted to talk to our resident council members. At 10 AM I went down to the second floor two a room where we could speak privately. There were 8 resident council members and the state assessor. This was the group of alert residents who could communicate and were willing to get in their chair and come meet with us. Only 4 of us spoke during the meeting and I, of course, was one of those.

I am a good booster for any organization that I like so I made sure to put the hospital in the best light possible. They need all the help they can get to continue doing the great work they are doing. I am very lucky to be here! I was looking at the clock because I had an appointment with Dr. R at 11 AM. I thought I would only be a few minutes late, but when I looked at my clock when I got back it was at least 20 minutes later than I thought it would be. I guess making sure all clocks are set to the correct time is not a priority.

I heard that Freddie had been sitting next to my bed but he was gone when I returned. Later, Dr R called and said since she did not know when I would be back she had left. I was bummed but I understood. I had really wanted to read her my next essay which I just finished. Next time!

Friday, July 25th

Dr. R texted me in the morning that she had a cancellation and could see me at 11 AM. Then A texted that she was going to be there at 1030. I said if it was only going to be a half an hour not to come and I would see her next week. Then Dr R did not show up until 1130 which has happened before so I made a note not to cancel with A again. Anyway, I got to see Freddie so it was all good!

Saturday, July 26th

I told my sister not to bring food as I had budgeted to get food every other week. I was disappointed there would be no sushi, but oh well. She helped me get a nice photo of the new plant with me blurry behind it. Nice! I love it when I have my blog photo before Monday.

She also helped me shave my legs for the first time since I had came here, I believe. I wear long skirts everywhere so no one can see my legs and I had stopped bothering to shave. I like the way shaved legs feel and I did not want anyone to see a stray long leg hair at any point. My legs feel very naked right now! I will get used to that. My sister is coming an hour before the taxi picks me up to do my hair and make up. Fun!

Sunday, July 27th

Well it was perfect that I did not have my sister bring anything yesterday as Mom called and asked me if I wanted something from DiamondHead Grill? That is a small local eatery that has been around for at least 40 years. Tom Selleck ate there when he was filming Magnum PI. Big portions at great prices. Mom got the chicken teriyaki plate with fries and salad. Yum! We both had chicken, fries and salad for lunch and I had enough chicken for two dinners left over.

The cover photo this week is a picture of the plant my classmate J brought me. My sister took this of the plant on my table with me in the background out of focus. Have a fabulous week!
