“Sinners” - 2/9-15/26

Monday, February 9th

Since I love the Oscars, that was the theme for my movie choices. HBO had Weapons and Sinners, and Sentimental Value was available for rent on Prime. When I mentioned that Sinners had 16 Oscar nominations, M was curious to see what all the fuss was about. There was a mix-up about how long the movie was, and no one realized it was almost 2 1/2 hours.

As I watched the movie, I realized it was the second half that I loved. There is way too much set-up before the vampire plot/nighttime, juke joint part of the movie begins. That had so impressed me that I had completely forgotten that it takes an hour before that stuff starts. For me, the last half of the movie negates the first half, and I am left thoroughly enjoying the movie. Mom had already seen it and tolerated watching it again, while M saw many structural flaws. Oh, well. There's always next week.

Tuesday, February 10th

I thought I would get up for my massage, but late morning I changed my mind and stayed in bed. When D came, I tried to play Deep Forest on Apple Music, but they didn’t have the album I was looking for. How disappointing! I enjoyed my massage in silence.

Wednesday, February 11th

J didn’t come, and Mom didn't come today, so I had the whole day to watch movies, play games and puzzles, and whatever I wanted! I have no problem with this kind of day.

Thursday, February 12th

Dr. R showed up, and at first, I didn't see the stroller, and I thought she was alone. Poop. I was so glad to see that I was wrong and she did have the stroller! We made the tent for Freddie, and he settled in it and stayed there all morning again! Mom came by for dinner, but didn't stay long since she doesn’t want to drive at night. I was glad to see her!

Friday, February 13th

A was busy and was not able to stop by today. That's OK. I've always been very easy-going about visitors. If they come, great! If something comes up, no problem! I forgot to mention last week that one of my favorite CNAs had to stop working at the hospital because her family was moving to the other side of the island, and she didn't drive. Yikes! I would definitely miss her. I was honored that she chose to work on me as one of her last residents.

Saturday February 14th

Mom decided to make Valentine's Day special for me by getting me dinner from a new place. Guava Smoked is a new restaurant that features lots of smoked meat. Mom told me to order two meals that she would pick up and bring in the evening. I looked at their menu online, and they have duck on Saturdays, so I ordered one meal of that and one meal of the kalbi ribs.

I'd love to have the mac salad, but it's not gluten-free, so I got the hapa rice and green salad. The portions were enormous, and Mom and I shared everything so we could try both. I liked the salad dressing and the rice. Mom also got me a piece of flourless chocolate cake for dessert from Diamondhead Grill. A wonderful meal!

Sunday, February 15th

My sister showed up just before lunch, so she gave me half of the leftover meat, rice, and the rest of the salad. I forgot about the rest of the chocolate cake. (In fact, as I'm writing this, I am realizing it is still there, and I need to finish it today. Oh, darn. I guess I will be forced to have dessert with lunch.) After lunch, she helped me put up the new calendar Mom got me of tropical flowers. We moved the pictures that were there below the flowers, so now I have half of the wall under the windows covered. No bare walls!

I had my sister take a photo of me with the Valentine's card Mom brought me. Mom has always cultivated choosing the right card, and she's very good at it. She always has her eye out for who has good cards, and when she finds a good one, she will buy it even if she doesn’t know who will get it. Inside, the card says “Smile! Hold still…” Very cute! Have a great week!
