For some unknown reason, I woke up spontaneously at 4:45 AM. I saw what time it was and promptly went back to sleep. I was woken by my CNA to eat breakfast, and then, at around 9 AM, the doctor was at my bedside alone and announced he was here to change my catheter. You're not going to do it by yourself, are you? I wondered out loud. He went away and came back, and a few minutes later two nurses were next to him. Everything was done quickly and painlessly!
After lunch, Mom and M showed up, and Mom gave us her choices: a film from 1975, this film, or The Towering Inferno. It was clear she was favoring this movie because she likes Burt Reynolds and I had recommended the movie to her. BR plays a stuntman in this 1972 movie directed by Hal Needham. Sally Field, looking fresh and perky as a young ingenue, plays his girlfriend, and Adam West, a.k.a. Batman from TV, is the actor BR is doing the stunts for. Lots of other young actors you might recognize populate this film. It was a lot of fun!

My masseuse had to reschedule, so my massage would be tomorrow. Quiet day doing not much of anything.
Wednesday, February 18th
Had a nice shower in the morning and got up in my chair after lunch to be ready for my massage. The nice thing about being in my chair is there is such good access to my head and shoulders. It's much harder to reach those areas when I am lying in bed. The other nice thing about being in my chair is we can sit in the dining room all by ourselves and play music as loud as we want and not bother anyone. I tried to play an album from Deep Forest that I love on Prime Music, but it forced me to shuffle everything and mix in other songs. All to get you to buy a subscription. I tried to play it on Apple Music, but they didn’t have the album. Aargh!

Dr. R showed up with the stroller, set up the blanket as a tent, and unzipped the top so Freddie could see. He stuck his head out and saw everything in place and promptly jumped onto the bed and settled down! Perfect! Dr. R and I were pleasantly surprised. He was almost completely enclosed by the blanket and did not mind when the nurse came into my area and set something down. The next test would be to bring him here early and wait in the tent instead of in the stroller so I can have more time with him. Yay!

Mom came by for lunch and brought an order of Guava Smoked chicken. There was a huge drumstick and a massive thigh along with salad and hapa rice. Yum and yum! Next time I am going to try the chicken salad they have with cranberries and pumpkin seeds. I like working my way through this menu. And I knew my sister would be on Maui this weekend, so I would have chicken for the next two days.

Mom would be coming back tomorrow, so I had the day to myself. Then, about mid-morning, I heard drumming at the end of the hall. Someone came in and gave me a red folded piece of heavy paper, and a few minutes later a large purple dragon head danced into the room. I held out the red paper as much as I could, and it looked like the dragon head paused a brief moment to see if I could get it any closer to him. I couldn't, so instead the dragon gently opened his mouth and took the red offering from me.
Music always is a bit of a gut punch for me, and drumming doubly so, so I was already openly weeping when it came in the room. I did manage to smile at everyone through my tears. I'm not sad; I'm overwhelmed. I really enjoyed getting to take part in Chinese New Year’s celebrations. The longer I'm here, the more I appreciate how much my hospital does to keep people involved in activities.
Sunday, February 22nd
Mom stopped by for lunch, and I told her about my visit from the dragon yesterday. We had watched one episode of The Pitt on Friday, but she needed to get back to her place today and did not have time to watch anything. I thought about starting the blog but really did not want to deal with it. I, in fact, managed to procrastinate until Wednesday before I actually sat down and wrote this out. It doesn't even take that long.
The photo this week is two pictures my sister found from the early 1970s. One of me with my sister and my mom at my cousin's house in Honolulu. The other photo is of me from a very early fishing outing with my cousins. I would caption this "Look, Mom, I caught bait!" We put the photos near the front door of the floor, on a billboard labeled “The Tapestry of Life." Have a wonderful week!
