“The Mechanic” - 2/23-3/1/26

Monday, February 23rd

M, because he likes continuity between our movie choices, gave us a choice between the better movie about stuntmen called, appropriately enough, The Stunt Man with Peter O'Toole (as the director of the movie), The Towering Inferno, and this movie, starring Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent. We wanted to watch The Stunt Man, but it was too late to start the over two-hour movie. TTI was almost three hours, so we settled on this movie.

I'm getting a feel for M’s movie choices, and I'm realizing that if there's a movie I know versus a movie I don‘t, I should choose the more well-known film. We could've broken The Inferno into two pieces, but instead we watched this largely forgettable movie. I think M must have liked this movie when it came out, but it doesn’t hold up now.

Tuesday, February 24th

I was supposed to have an appointment with my nutritionist, but she had to go to the doctor about an injury to her knee, so we had to reschedule. That‘s unfortunate because she is a very busy woman, and I was going to get retested for a new supplement regimen. Instead, I will keep going another month and get retested in April.

A few times a month, there is a social lunch planned that gets the few people who can talk to each other together. This is nice because it’s people from different floors who don't usually get to see each other. Today was the first time I could join them, so they got me in my chair, and I went down to the first floor, where they had some people singing for everyone. It was also audience participation, and although the movements were very simple, they were too much for me. Yikes!

So I sat with the other people and then went back up to my floor for lunch. In the afternoon, I went over to the dining room and had my massage while I listened to the They Might Be Giants album Flood. One of my very favorites. My masseuse liked it too!

Wednesday, February 25th

Mom visited at lunch, and she stayed to watch another episode of The Pitt. I'm so glad I turned Mom onto this show. We have fun watching it together. Later in the day, my sister called to tell me that she found a house to rent nearby in St. Louis Heights. And it's eight houses down from a relative who just had a baby, so my sister can babysit! I wish I could've been a mom, but that was not in the cards for this lifetime.

Thursday, February 26th

I forgot to mention that on Tuesday, they came early and drew my blood to test my B12 and vitamin D levels. I have deep, rolling veins, so I am a very hard stick for the phlebotomist. Here at this hospital, they are used to difficult blood draws, and the technician got a sample in no time flat. It left a good bruise on my hand, which should have been this week’s cover photo, but I waited too long.

When Dr. R and Freddie came, he repeated jumping up on the bed just like last week. He was even sitting up in the stroller, eagerly waiting to jump up before we were ready for him. After we were done and he had gone back in the stroller, Dr. R took too long to put away everything, so Freddie jumped back on the bed even though the blanket was gone. Yay! Fabulous!

Friday, February 27th

Mom came for dinner, and we watched some stuff afterwards and played some games. A nice day. What more do you want?

Saturday, February 28th

My sister showed up and showed me the Zillow pictures of her new place. It looks nice, but I don't know if it will be accessible to me. It's really a bummer that I might be confined to the garage. We'll see how it goes…

She brought one package of sushi and a rainbow roll for herself. I cheated and had two pieces from that. The two pieces with the most avocado and the least raw fish. Enough so I could taste the yummy, raw deliciousness, but hopefully not enough to get me in trouble with parasites.

Around 3 PM, my stepbrother stopped by and brought me a helping of shrimp pad Thai. The three of us had a nice time visiting and talking about his brand new grandchild that was just born. My sister showed him pictures of her new house, and I read both of them the first couple of paragraphs I had written of my latest essay. I hope it doesn’t take too long to finish.

Sunday, March 1st

Mom visited after church, and we hung out for a bit afterwards. I am procrastinating so much that I am even forgetting what we did on Sunday. Yikes! I've got to write these sooner in the week. I know everyone is just waiting on the edge of their seat to know what happened in my life recently. Ha! I'm a little bored writing about what I did every day.

I needed a photo for this week, so I had my CNA help me take a picture of myself with my plant. We overwatered it, and the moss around it had thinned out to the point that it wasn’t holding the dirt in much. The string holding the ball of dirt and moss together had also broken in a few places. Eventually, half of the dirt ball broke off when we moved it. We quickly pressed it back together, and then I had my mom bring some fabric to put around the dirt ball to hold it together. My sister will help me put twine around the material so we can cut down the fabric on top. A lot of the original leaves died off, but there is new growth! I like watching the life cycle of this plant. Have a great week!
