It was my turn to pick a movie, and I wanted to laugh. We had started out only choosing comedies, and I thought it was time to get back to that. Somehow, this movie was suggested to me, and Mom likes Kevin Kline, and I like Tracy Ullman, and there are a slew of good actors in other parts. I chose Bridesmaids and Little Miss Sunshine so there would be a choice, but I wanted this movie to be picked, and it was!
Kevin and Tracy play a couple who run a pizzeria. Joan Plowright plays her mother, River Phoenix plays their employee, and William Hurt and Keanu Reeves play drug addicts who help them attempt to kill Kevin. It's a comedy, so they aren’t successful, and everything turns out OK. It was actually quite funny, and Mom and M both enjoyed it. Yay!
Afterwards, I called the cab company to make a reservation for Friday so I could attend the family brunch Mom was hosting at her apartment building. Mom was going to make an egg dish she had made once before that was really yummy, and I was looking forward to eating that again!
Tuesday, March 3rd
Last week, my once-a-month masseuse had asked if she could reschedule the massage for this week. I am always very accommodating with people who work for me, as it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me if she comes on a different day. Whoever is asking to make the change is always very grateful that I let them change, and I look great. I have learned, in my older age, not to sweat the small stuff. I am always open to being flexible.
Wednesday, March 4th
Mom visited at lunch and chose what I should wear on Friday. I was glad I did not have to make that decision myself, although I'm not sure why. I have a very limited wardrobe, but I guess I wanted Mom to pick something she would like to see me in. It's always nice to have a choice pre-Mom approved. I didn't make notes on today, so I can't remember what else happened.
Thursday, March 5th
Dr. R and Freddie came today for another good visit. Freddie was anxiously waiting to be let out of the stroller so he could jump on the bed. Hooray! It's great that my bed is a place he wants to be. Not enough, so he lets himself be caught in the morning, but once he is…
Friday, March 6th
My CNA got me dressed and in my chair early, as TheCab picked me up at 10 AM. My sister was downstairs to meet me when I arrived, and she took me to the building’s club room that Mom had reserved for the event. Mom had made all the food, and she was going crazy in the kitchen getting everything ready. There were a few logistical problems we worked out with the building’s maintenance crew, and then we were set!
The food was, of course, delicious and plentiful. My sister had also made a gluten-free coffee cake that everyone enjoyed. After everyone ate, my sister read my latest essay out loud since I had just finished it, and it came out really well, I thought. Everyone agreed! We tried to move the return earlier, but I made it back to the hospital in time to get massaged.
I read her the essay, and she stopped me halfway through it to ask if I was trying to tell her something. No, I'm just reading you what I wrote, which has nothing to do with you personally. That was a little weird, but she immediately let it go when I said it had nothing to do with you. I'm not sure what she was reacting to, and I don‘t really want to get into it. The rest of the time, she was very normal.
Saturday, March 7th
A couple of friends from high school were going to stop by with food at 12:30 pm. One of them texted to say they were having car trouble and couldn’t make it. Poop! The other person came and brought food from Guava Smoked, as I had requested. Yum! I love the fruity marinade on the meat, but it was very gristly and chewy. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all of it; it just gave my jaw a workout.
My sister showed up about 3 o'clock and said hi to my classmate C. Then C left, and my sister helped me look up how to submit my essay to the paper and to Civil Beat. Not difficult at all, but I just have to do it. My sister was very preoccupied with packing, so she didn’t stay long. That's OK. I can relate.
Sunday, March
Mom had an art class and then a symphony to attend, so she wasn’t able to stop by today. No problem! With the whole day free, I thought about getting an early start on the blog and instead rented Marty Supreme. I really enjoyed the movie and Timothée Chalamet’s performance, although I am rooting for Michael B. Jordan to win Best Actor next Sunday. I really want to watch Hamnet and Sentimental Value before the ceremony. I am very, very glad that Hulu is airing it again. Bully for them.
Later in the evening, I got a text from Dr. R. She sent me a photo of her in her bicycle gear, holding two three-week-old kittens that had been abandoned. She said that she had no choice but to foster them. I will wait two or three weeks before I tell my sister that I once again have an opportunity to adopt an abandoned kitten. I think the universe will not be satisfied until I have a kitten of my own. We'll see…
My cover photo is a picture of Freddie in the tent this week. I know I'm not in the photo, but it's a good shot, and I am just out of frame, if that means anything. I didn't have a photo to use, so this is what you get. Have a wonderful week!
