“Sullivan’s Travels” - 6/8-4/26

Monday, June 8th

Since it was my turn to choose a movie and it was the beginning of the month, I looked at the new collections from Criterion called Odysseys. I had chosen After Hours, The Darjeeling Limited, and this movie, as I thought they were the three most easily accessible movies in the collection. M groused a bit about everything being from Criterion, and I thought, "That's my prerogative!"

I very much enjoy my Criterion subscription and intend to get as much as I can from it. ST was the funniest movie of the bunch, but when I gave my synopsis of the movie, it did not match with M‘s memory of the film. We watched that movie, and afterwards, M said he enjoyed it and remembered it incorrectly. Yay!

The movie is from 1941, directed by Preston Sturges and starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake. It was interesting to see the difference between Kim Basinger’s VL (LA Confidential) and the real thing. She was about a foot shorter than JM and game for everything. JM plays a famous comedy director who wants to make a serious film. He wants to live as a tramp and experience life as a poor person. He gets more than he bargains for and learns the value of a good comedy. Heartwarming!

Tuesday, June 9th

So much of nothing happened last week that I finished the blog before lunch today! Yippee! I could feel that I was getting sick, so I rescheduled the massage for Friday. I really did not feel like getting my body worked over today.

Wednesday, June 10th

I spent the day being relatively quiet and feeling myself getting sick.

Thursday, June 11th

I texted with Dr. R and told her I wasn't feeling great. She also was not doing well, so we canceled our session today. Around lunchtime, I was able to eat, but I also had a bout of nausea. I could really feel it coming on, and I knew I was getting warmer. It didn't really hit until the evening. I tried to go to sleep but could not. Around 2 AM, the overnight nurse took my temperature, and it read 101.3! No wonder I couldn’t sleep.

She took off my headphones and put a couple of cold packs around my head. My oxygen level was also tested low, so they hooked me up to a machine that pumped oxygen into me. Pretty quickly, I was down to 100°. Around 4 AM, she allowed me to put the headphones back on, and I immediately fell fast asleep.

Friday, June 12th

It's amazing to me how good I felt waking up after just 3 1/2 or four hours of sleep. I was a brand new person, devoid of any fever. I could tell it was just a quirk that had come on, blown things up, and just as quickly, had disappeared. They took an X-ray of my chest to see if I had pneumonia, but everything looked fine. They tested me for the flu and Covid, and both came back negative. This is just how my body acts sometimes.

Saturday, June 13th

Everyone in my room had to clear out this morning, as they were finally here to deep clean the room. I had been told that this would happen on Monday, but then they changed the schedule. So I was in my chair when my sister came by at lunch with two packages of sushi. I ended up only needing one pack, as I just can't handle a traditional California roll with crab anymore. I'm stuck on the version that uses shrimp instead of crab. Can you believe what I have to deal with?

Sunday, June 14th

I had no visitors today because Mom was getting her condo ready for some work that had to be done on it. My sister and M spent the day there getting ready too. You might have noticed the distinct lack of visits from my mother in the last two weeks. She has been dealing with getting older and is not happy about it. She's still doing great for her age, which I will not publish here, but suffice it to say that this is all very normal and expected. That bastard Time only moves in one direction.

I haven't checked, but I think this is only the second time I have used a stock image instead of a photograph I took for my blog cover photo. So stop your whinin’ and have a great week!
