“O Brother, Where Art Thou?” - 6/29-7/5/26

Monday, June 29th

Yay! A Monday without a suppository. I knew this was the day for my catheter change. The nurse laid everything out for him ahead of time, and then the doctor showed up and changed it all by himself! I guess the nurse didn't realize he was here, so he just did it and left. That was fine, but then I was just left, and there needs to be some cleanup afterwards. Finally, a nurse showed up and cleaned everything up. Phew!

It was my turn to pick, and I really just wanted to see this movie again. I have never seen it when it came out because I had some kind of idea about it. So I finally watched this and found it to be a perfectly delightful movie with great music! I threw two other movie choices in, and I was done. I will work harder to choose a movie next time.

This movie came out in 2000 by Joel and Ethan Coen and stars George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, Charles Durning, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman. The music was curated by T-Bone Burnett and is quite fabulous. I had no idea how old You Are My Sunshine was. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!

In the evening, my cousin sent a clip of her daughter doing a local news report on the annual Makawao parade. She is doing a summer internship at the local public access television station. Very cool! I texted her so I could tell her how confident and composed she looked in her report.

Tuesday, June 30th

Another great massage with D1. For my soundtrack today, I chose They Might Be Giants. They are another in a long line of upbeat, quirky bands that I like. My first roommate after college, K, introduced me to them, and I've loved them ever since.

Wednesday, July 1st

Mom didn't feel up for a visit, so it was just me today. At lunch, I had coleslaw, which usually gets drowned in dressing, but today it wasn’t! Joy! After lunch, I asked my CNA to plug in my phone to charge, and she got very confused because I have two cords and sometimes the cord gets unplugged from the wall. I knew what was going on, but I was having a hard time explaining it to her. Things get even more complicated when your CNA thinks she knows what's going on when she doesn't.

Thursday, July 2nd

I have two pictures that I use for my background on my iPad. The first is a wonderful picture of Humphrey, and the second is a great photo of Freddie. Recently, the background photo had changed from Freddie back to Humphrey, and I was enjoying staring at him. Dr. R showed up pushing the stroller, and we set up the tent. Freddie sat up in anticipation and jumped right onto the bed! Yippee!

Friday, July 3rd

It was a normal Friday except for the fact that I learned my regular morning CNA, M, would start her annual summer vacation on Tuesday. Damn! Well, at least I knew ahead of time what would happen. Usually, people come and go, and you don't know why or if or when they will return. Yikes.

Saturday, July 4th

My sister took advantage of the fact that this national holiday happened on a Saturday, and she wanted to entertain in her new home. She had the fun idea to create a potato chip bar with about 10 different flavors of potato chips. Lots of food, and for dessert she got a variety of ice cream bars. She FaceTimed with me, and I said hi to the people I knew there. Mom was there too since she was staying with my sister for a few weeks while her condo was being worked on.

Sunday, 5th

Mom visited after church, and you could really tell she needed to rest. That's what it looked like to me. She's going to the doctor tomorrow to get a cortisone shot in her knee. That will help. She said that she was tired so she didn’t stay long.

My sister came by with two bags of potato chips. I had told her I wanted to try the dill pickle flavor, and she also brought a bag of gluten-free mini pretzels and a bag of Kettle Brand barbecue chips. I don't usually like that flavor, but these were OK. I will choke a few of them down. She also mentioned building a ramp so I could get into the house!

I should have taken a picture with M yesterday, but I didn’t think about it. Instead, on Tuesday I asked my CNA to take this photo with the bag of potato chips I liked. The head nurse on my floor had also brought me a flower from her yard, so that's on the table next to me. Yay! Have a great week!
