“Project Hail Mary” - 7/6-12/26

Monday, July 6th

Just as my CNA was starting to give me lunch today, she scraped off all the nice cilantro seasoning on my fish. "Stop!" I yelled, and she said that she was thinking of a different resident who did not like cilantro. Perhaps they were someone who thought it tasted like soap. I love cilantro! We had a good chuckle over that.

Mom had a doctor's appointment, so it was just M and me today. He surprised me by suggesting this film, which he knew was available on Prime. Perfect! I'm sure Mom would have already seen this in a theater. We set up my headphones and AirPods so they would both hear the audio from my iPad. Nice! I wish we could do that for the three of us, but Apple restricts sharing to two Apple products at a time.

This current film was made by Amazon and stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, and James Ortiz. It was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. RG wakes up in a spaceship not knowing who he is or why he's there. Gradually, he remembers his mission and is eventually joined by another creature. It is a very hopeful movie with laughs and a wonderfully heartwarming ending. I highly recommend it!

Tuesday, July 7th

It was the first Tuesday of the month, so it was time to see D2. She always fills me in on what has been happening with her, and I took the liberty of giving her some of my perspective on her. At first, she didn't agree, but by the end of the massage, she said that she agreed I might be onto something. I understand how people act.

Wednesday, July 8th

Two CNAs gave me a shower. One had given me a shower a few times before and was fine, but when the other CNA joined her, they were interacting with each other more than with me, and I was really not enjoying it. It was the worst shower I have had in a while. That put me in a bad mood, and I was broody all day. Grrr!

Thursday, July 9th

Dr R and Freddie came by, and once again, he jumped right onto the bed no problem! Wonderful! He didn’t necessarily want to stay in the tent the whole hour, but that was OK. Mom came by just before lunch but did not end up giving me lunch because she was feeling a bit tired. Go home and rest!

Friday, July 10th

I had a suppository this morning, and I had a very difficult time. This is not the first time I have had problems this week. I thought about it later and realized I had eaten a bunch of potato chips on Sunday and then had problems on Monday, and I had done the same thing Thursday. Potatoes are a no-no for me, so I realized I cannot cheat with potato chips. I gave back the bags of chips to my sister when she came on Sunday. I really did like the garlic parmesan flavor. Boo-hoo!

Saturday, July 11th

I got an extra long visit from my sister today! We had a late lunch when she showed up with sushi, but then she ended up staying all the way through dinner! Fabulous! She helped me submit my latest essay to Civil Beat, so I'm hoping I will add another link when(?) they publish it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Sunday, July 12th

A CNA came by and said that there were only three CNAs today, and so I wouldn't be able to take a shower. If M were here, she would make sure I had a shower, but she wasn’t here! Argh! I made sure the bed bath was as complete as it could be.

Mom came by after church, and we ate and played some games as usual. Because of her knee, she doesn’t hang out as long as she used to. I'm reluctant to say it, but I don't mind shorter visits. I'm happy to make Mom happy.

Because I was so delayed writing this week's blog, I didn’t take this picture until Wednesday, when I was up in my chair. Luckily for me, being in my chair is enough of a novelty to warrant a picture. I really should (Ack! Don't “should” yourself!) be in my chair more often.
