We were back to the three of us today. Great! Mom brought me a chicken salad from Diamond Head Grill, which I saved for dinner since it came after I had already eaten lunch. I like that Mom does not need to feed me lunch. That would just complicate things before we watch our movie. I like getting salads because fresh leafy greens do not exist here. Besides iceberg lettuce, which is so light green I do not count it.
It was Mom's turn to pick, and she had researched her choices. They were How to Make a Killing, The Usual Suspects, and this movie. She had actually picked Nobody 2, and we had unknowingly changed from 2 to the first movie because we thought we should start at the beginning. Mistake. The second movie was like the first but with a lot more outrageousness and comedy. That's what they said anyway. The first movie is a much more serious, realistic action movie that ends up getting a little hard to watch. So we were a bit put off, but we got through it.

D1 was back, so I had a great massage without music. I couldn't think of what I wanted to listen to, so that was fine. She ended up rubbing me down so well that I am lower in the bed, so I was slouched when I set up for dinner. We repositioned after I finished eating, but I should have done it before dinner. Oh well.
Wednesday, July 15th
I had a shower and then got up in my chair, as there was the bi-monthly resident council meeting on the first floor. We were supposed to hold elections for new officers, but then we learned that our president had been discharged. Poop! That was the alert, relatively young MS patient I had just exchanged phone numbers with. At least I can text her and see what happened.
Mom stopped by and gave me lunch. I am keenly aware of how she moves, and I try to minimize the time she is on her feet. She is supposed to vary her positions, so too much sitting is bad as well. Anyway, she does what she wants. I wonder where I inherited my stubbornness from.
Thursday, July 16th
Dr. R and Freddie came by, and once again, Freddie did a great job of jumping on the bed! I think he's come to realize that if he gets in the stroller and comes here, he will get on the bed no matter what. I'm glad that he's willing to do it anyway. I do treasure my kitty time.
Yesterday, I had opened YouTube, which I don't normally do, and had ended up watching a podcast from someone I know. She was interviewing a lady originally from Russia who is now coaching people so they can get rid of chronic pain. I don't have pain, but I was very familiar with the approach she was using, and I was very interested in working with her. Dr. R helped me fill out her form, and we submitted it!

A, the coach, got back to me quickly, and we ended up scheduling the initial session for this morning because I was eager to work with her. I really liked it and will work on creating the time and space together. I think it would create a lot of positive change for me.
My friends A and M were in the neighborhood and dropped by for a quick visit. I hadn’t seen them in a little bit, so it was good to reconnect. Then, at around 3:30 in the afternoon, the speech therapist came by and went through the booklet she had created to help people speak more clearly.
The basics are to take a deep breath and speak on the exhale. Make wide mouth movements so you can enunciate and speak in a lower register to be heard. It helped to have that spelled out for me, and I will practice reading her booklet out loud. She had me call my sister so she could tell her what we had done. My sister said she could scan the pages so I could have the booklet on my tablet. Great!

For some reason, I procrastinated all last week and never posted my blog. I decided to finish both weeks over the weekend and post two weeks at once. I wrote the entire week quickly today and wondered to myself what the big deal was that I couldn't have gotten it done. Oh well. It's done now.
I opened Peacock and saw that a World Cup game was about to happen, so I watched the whole match between France and England. A very exciting game! Spoiler alert! At the half, England was leading 4-0. France finally came alive for the second half and clawed their way back to 4-3. England scored, France scored again, and England put the nail in the coffin, and the game ended with the staggeringly high score of 6-4!
It was an incredibly exciting game, and I thought, of course, they're giving the Americans a reason to watch. I've always been a fan and chuckle at Americans calling it the World Series of baseball, basketball, or football. American football. I think it is pretty arrogant of us to use the name "football" when it is already the most popular sport in the world. I think soccer is by far superior, but I fully admit I am biased.
My stepbrother and his wife stopped by with shrimp pad Thai in the afternoon, and we had a nice visit. My sister came by before they left to feed me some noodles. Then she had to leave but promised to come by tomorrow.
Sunday, July 19th
I got mixed up many times and twice thought I was watching the final game when it wasn't. I watched over half of the game between France and Spain, which Spain won 2-0, and thought that Spain had won the whole shebang. Not yet! Today was it. My sister showed up, and we watched the game together. It was a completely different game from yesterday. Lots more strategy and no goals! Spain didn't score until the beginning of the second overtime. Yikes!
I really enjoyed the halftime show. That is definitely something Americans are great at. The Muppets were fabulous! Completely American and neutral at the same time. The entire show was very heartwarming.
This picture is of me, the two social workers, and the long-term care Ombudsman for Oʻahu after the resident council meeting. Because of privacy restrictions, they wouldn't let me take pictures with any other residents. I hope everyone has a great week!
