Monday, July 20th
My sister shares her HBO subscription that she has through the condo she owns. It is very basic, and HBO has started playing commercials every 15 minutes during movies. This is extremely annoying to me and unacceptable for our Monday movie watching. So right now, if I want to watch a commercial-free movie and not pay for it, I need to watch something on Criterion or Peacock.
I gave them what I thought were acceptable choices, including Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Silence of the Lambs, and we ended up watching this movie. M had not seen this movie, and I love when we stumble on something he has not seen. Criterion had a collection of four Jonathan Demme films. This was definitely one of his more minor ones.
Released in 1988, this movie stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Modine in a fairly basic cops and robbers movie that ends up being a bit more complex than you would think. It is not just a vapid comedy but something with a bit of substance. Unfortunately, my neighbor's alarm kept going off, and nobody came to answer it for 15 minutes, so that was annoying.
Tuesday, July 21st
I did not have a massage today because D1 was on the mainland because her son was graduating from somewhere. I forget where, but it was not high school. It was either college or a military academy. I knew Mom wanted me to have D2 cover it, but I really wanted a day off, so I took it. Sorry, Mom!
Wednesday, July 22nd
Mom was busy working on an art project for a group she meets with, so I ended up having two empty days in a row. No problem! I thoroughly enjoy my alone time. I also forgot what I did today, so chalk this day up to the infamous black hole.
Thursday, July 23rd
I enjoyed Dr. R and Freddie's visit, and he was good about jumping on the bed. He stayed there most of the hour while Dr. R watched the video of my session last Friday. She approved.
Because this is a state facility, salads have been off our diet since the diarrhea outbreak, and I miss them! Their substitution, for me anyway, has been slices of beets, which I don't want to eat. So much of the time, they go uneaten. I need to talk to someone to see if I could have raw carrot slices instead.
Mom stopped by today in the afternoon. We got on a roll playing Connections and did a puzzle until she got tired and went home. Because I could, I watched 3 movies in a row. Such decadence! Look at me, flaunting my free time. Either that, or I am ignoring what I should be doing. (Ack! No shoulds!)
Friday, July 24th
Argh! Instead of beets, they gave me a macaroni salad for lunch! It looked good with peas and Parmesan cheese, but I did not even taste it because of the gluten. I was afraid I would like it too much and say F*** it. It's just not worth it to cheat.
Saturday, July 25th
I definitely knew what I wanted my sister to get me at Whole Foods. She brought me two different vegetable sushi rolls and two salads, one garlic kale and the other a coleslaw with kale and Brussels sprout slices. I ate half of the kale salad for lunch and the other half at dinner. I saved the coleslaw for tomorrow.
My sister helped me finish some of my financial spreadsheet work for March. I had done April but had not finished the beginning of the year. I don't mind categorizing my credit card bills, but it's not quite as fun as watching a movie or TV show, so I don't choose to do it as often as I should. (There's that word!)
Sunday, July
My sister stopped by after yoga because she had been thinking about me after yesterday's visit. It was nice to see her two days in a row. Mom stopped by after church and gave me lunch. My sister said hi to my mom and then left. I had sushi and the coleslaw for lunch. I told Mom that I wanted the coleslaw to last four servings. I did not make it clear enough that I only wanted to eat a quarter of the salad because she kept feeding it to me. Aargh! I ate a very large quarter and then stopped.
After lunch, I asked Mom to get the ice cream bar my sister had brought after her Fourth of July party. Of course, I don't usually have ice cream, but I was going to cheat a little. When my sister first put the ice cream bar in the freezer, and she checked it the following day, someone had conveniently moved it to the refrigerator!? She moved it back to the freezer, but I had wondered if it would be any good to eat. Luckily, it was fine, and I enjoyed the treat.
A relative texted me that the daughter of a good friend of hers had just been diagnosed with MS and asked if she could send her to me to ask questions. Of course! I thought about it and wondered if my blog would be a little bit scary to someone who was newly diagnosed. I have been living with this disease for over 20 years, and it has progressed a lot in that time. When I was first diagnosed, it took me about a year to get comfortable with it.
The cover photo this week shows M, Mom, and me watching a movie on my iPad. Actually, the photo was taken on Monday, so it technically shouldn’t represent the previous week, but really, it looks like almost any time when we are watching something. We were in the small meeting room, which I like because it's not freezing cold like the small dining room is. We weren't watching a comedy either, but the photo looks better with us laughing. Have a fabulous week!
