Since I anticipated a catheter change, I spent 10 minutes imagining it going smoothly, and it did! They got me up in my chair early so we could watch a movie in the other room. I had time to call Apple Support about a few problems I had been having. That went fine, and when I was done chatting with the lady at the end of the call, she said I had been the nicest caller she had talked to today! Sweet! (What? Like I'm not going to tell you about getting a compliment?)
We ended up watching the movie in the small meeting room. I like being in that room because it doesn't get cold. M had been watching post-apocalyptic movies, and he thought he would save this for our movie day. Lucky us. What he had not noticed was that this movie is three hours long! He didn't like the violence in the first half hour, so he fast-forwarded through all of that. This meant we did not watch any of the setup for the movie.
That was not the biggest problem. He said the movie had been panned when it first opened in 1997. I suggested that maybe he should take the hint that perhaps Kevin Costner, who directed and stars in this bloated epic, wasn’t doing his best work. I wish I could say it was so bad it was good, but unfortunately it was just bad.

Yesterday, Mom had brought a fruit salad she had made with apples, walnuts, broccoli, and bacon bits. I don't know about you, but because I don't like the vegetables they serve here, I love when I get fresh, raw veggies. I loved the salad! Thanks, Mom!!
D1 arrived at 2 PM and gave me a great massage, serenaded by hits from the 80s. A classic I will always love since I am so familiar with those songs.

I'm sorry to say I did not make notes for today, so I have no memory of what happened. I will declare this a black hole day and move on.
Thursday, July 30th
Dr. R was on the mainland somewhere attending a conference and visiting friends for a couple of weeks, so I was kitty-free for now. My mom had sent me two pages of entries for my trust account that she executes, so I spent the day entering all of those transactions into my financial spreadsheet. I was very glad I could complete that so quickly!
Friday, July 31st
I spent the day categorizing all of the May credit card entries. Great! My sister and I had gotten into an argument about how I enter numbers. I had been entering the exact charge down to the penny. My sister was in favor of rounding up to the nearest dollar. As I was entering the May charges, I wondered why I had objected to something that made my life a lot simpler. So I went back and rounded everything for the beginning of the year. Much easier!

My stepsister, S, who lives with her husband on Kauai, and her daughter, K, visited so we (me, Mom & my sister) could meet her brand new 10-month-old son, K. K lives with her husband in Los Angeles, which, of course, warms my heart. (Yay West Coast!) I loved playing with K when she was growing up, and we have a great connection. (See my essay on How to Trick a Kid Into Liking You.)
Children under 4 years old are not allowed to visit me in my room, so we met on the first floor at a table overlooking Diamond Head. Baby K was sitting in his mom's lap looking at me for some of the morning. I, of course, was looking right back at him for most of the time. What a cutie! It was really special that they had made a point of stopping by to see us. Yippee! There's nothing quite like a connection you make with a baby that's maintained into adulthood. I highly recommend!
My sister stayed after everyone left and hung out with me on my floor. I was able to get back into bed, which was nice. We watched a couple more episodes of Cape Fear and cleaned up a little bit of my wall. The poster I ordered from John Oliver's Last Week Tonight came, and we took a look at that. My sister thought she might have a frame for it, which would be good. It will look good in the blank corner of the wall next to the curtain.
Sunday, August 2nd
Mom visited after church and gave me lunch. I am starting to feel a little bit bad about having her help me when I know it's hard for her to stand and walk. I know she wants to see me and hang out with me. I hope she finds a decent solution to help her knees. It's no fun seeing her in pain or discomfort.
The cover photo is my sister and me with K. The arm of my wheelchair is a perfect width for baby feet! At the end of the blog I have included the fabulous photo my sister took of all of us. I also included a photo that shows my sister with wind blown hair but mainly shows the incredible view of Diamond Head we have. I am really in a great location. Have a wonderful week!
