I got up in my chair so we could watch our movie in the dining room across the way. Although that room is very cold, it is quiet and away from the other people in my room. I know my neighbor enjoys not having to listen to whatever movie we are watching as well. I forget how we came up with this movie, but M chose it, and we all enjoyed it immensely.
This film from 1996 was directed by John Sayles and stars Chris Cooper, Elizabeth Peña, Kris Kristofferson, and Frances McDormand. It is one of those movies with many interwoven storylines, so you have to really stay on your toes when you're watching it. Apparently, it was Chris Cooper's breakout movie, as he has some intimate scenes with EP. He is much more of a character actor, not a leading man, and I don't believe he ever repeated that in a movie.
After the movie, we went back to my room and talked to my neighbor. I introduced M, and he looked at her setup in the hopes that he could facilitate getting her headphones plugged in. It had been three weeks since RT (Recreational Therapy) had ordered the part they needed, and I was losing hope that it would ever happen. The sound of the TV was driving me up the wall! It was not straightforward, but he likes the challenge.

Since it was the first Tuesday of the month, it was D2’s turn to massage me. Inevitably, D2 vents a bit about her time since she saw me previously, so we joke that it is therapy for her to massage me. Hey, whatever I can do to help! I also called my nutritionist to clarify a few things on the new supplements schedule. RT also came and hooked up my neighbor’s headphones!! Hallelujah! I texted M to let him know he could disregard that problem.
There is a drug I have been taking for at least 10 years now called low-dose naltrexone. It is normally used to help people addicted to heroin, as it shuts down opiate receptors. For MS patients, it is, at a low dose, supposed to shut off some of our receptors. When I started using it years ago, it made a significant difference in my speech, which was very slurred, and my level of fatigue. It's relatively inexpensive (about $25 a month), and I have never stopped taking it.
That's all the background. The bottle I had expired about one month before the pills were done. I had called it in, but not soon enough, and there was a gap between when the old bottle ran out and when the new prescription arrived. The new bottle came, and they showed it to me and put it in the medicine cart. I did not notice until now that they had not actually given me the pill last night. I talked to the nurse, and they said that I didn't have an order for it! I've been taking it every day for the last four years! Get a new order, please! No duh.

I decided to take a few minutes and actually read posts on Facebook. I read what I thought was an article, but it turned out to be a long advertisement regarding a drug for MS. OK, I did not need the drug, but I thought what it was saying was very interesting. It was talking about the area in your body around all your muscles and between your organs called your fascia.
Because my body is continually trying to attack parts of me, it is constantly in a state of urgency. That urgency means the body prioritizes where to send its resources, which in turn means that my fascia does not receive the water and nutrition that it should. The article was saying that can cause the fascia to get dehydrated and stiff, which can cause many of the secondary problems MS causes. Made sense to me, but I take so many supplements I'm cramming nutrition into me. It's an explanation that would justify my supplements.
I also started getting my low-dose naltrexone again. Yippee!

Dr R and Freddie were not here today because Dr R was at another conference or visiting someone; I can't remember which. I also received a box from Amazon with a bunch of new snacks in it! Unfortunately, I usually make snack bags with four different kinds of snacks, and I only have two on hand now. The head nurse talked to me and told me Leahi does not allow any medications from Amazon, as they cannot verify their origins. So we will have things shipped to my sister and hand-carry them here.

I couldn't remember a week ago what I did today, so I'm certainly not going to remember now! Probably watched stuff…
Saturday, October 10th
Finally! It has been weeks since my sister was able to visit me on a Saturday! I was looking forward to getting some things done! She filled out the form for the catering company and updated some information on Amazon. Now everything will be delivered to my sister, and she will bring it to me. We don't want Mom to have to carry things while she is using her cane. She also added a few of her friends to my invitation list for my party! Fabulous! I want the party to be big! We also made snack bags with some mini rice cakes she had gotten when she got my sushi. Yum!
Sunday, October 11th
My mom visited at lunch and immediately started worrying about the catering. At this point, I was not worried, as I knew if worse came to worst, I could always get platters from Diamond Head Grill. Now that I have seen the catering people's menu, I really wanted their food! In any case, it would not be a problem to have food at my party.
The cover photo is from my sister’s trip. This is my sister, my cousin, and her oldest child with their two kitties, Cheddar and Brie. Did I mention they live in Minnesota? Perfect names! Next week will be a photo of me, I promise! Just want to create some variety. You would get bored if it were just photos of me every week. I get bored at that thought. Have a fabulous week!
