“Night Of The Hunter” - 10/19-25/26

Monday, October 19th

The Dr changed my catheter, and it was quick and easy! Yay! Since I still hadn't heard back from the original caterer, I wondered what I was going to do about the food. I didn't spend too much time worrying. It was just a thought.

Mom and M came by, and Mom suggested some really not Halloween-type movies, and I started fussing about wanting to watch something in the spirit of the month! Criterion has added interviews, trailers, and other incidental short films if they have them for each movie. I had watched a lot of these about this film and was really in the mood to see it.

This picture was made in 1955 and is the only film that actor Charles Laughton ever directed. It's a wonderful movie, and the first 3/4 is very scary. The last quarter of the film is completely different and a bit too long, if you ask me. Robert Mitchum mesmerizes as the main character, while Shelley Winters and Lillian Gish round out the supporting cast. The kids are also terrific!

Tuesday, October 20th

My mom got the name of a good caterer from a friend of hers who works at a major hotel in Waikiki. Mom had talked to her, and I was waiting for her to call. She finally did, and we had a long talk about all the things I wanted to do. I told her what the menu was that I had fallen in love with from the prior caterer. She had a company she worked with that could recreate that menu! Things were beginning to fall into place!

D1 came and gave me a massage. I had, of course, invited her to my birthday party, and she immediately accepted and now asked if I had a gift registry. "I'm not supposed to want gifts, but really, I would love a fun T-shirt,” I suggested. Then she looked up and found an Underdog T-shirt, which she then purchased. I'm not supposed to know what my gift is, I thought, smiling giddily. Yippee!

** Gift Ideas for Ellen **

  • T-shirt of any single Looney Tunes character (Bugs, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Tasmanian Devil, Tweety and Sylvester, Road Runner, and Coyote)
  • or “That's all folks!” with the logo and Porky Pig waving
  • or Rocky and Bullwinkle
  • or Fractured Fairytales logo
  • or the Jetsons
  • or the Mad Magazine logo or Alfred E. Neuman
  • or Ren & Stimpy
  • or Rick and Morty
  • or Crazy Shirts cat in a hula skirt

Just to be clear, a present is in no way mandatory. It is completely OPTIONAL! I only ask people to bring a card that I can add to my wall. I just wanted to give ideas to people who are going to bring me a present no matter what I say. Having fun things to wear is a way for me to smile every day when I put the T-shirt on.

Wednesday, October 21st

I talked more with the catering lady, and we defined who would do what better. It is all very manageable and doable. Yay!

Thursday, October 22nd

I had a very good visit with Dr R and Freddie! I love it when he sits up in the stroller and then immediately jumps onto the bed! What a cutie! Dr R is also very useful in helping me get things done. Today, she helped me call the doctor's office where I was scheduled for an appointment and had them fax me a form I filled out and sent back so they could get my records from Maui transferred here. My appointment is next Thursday, so I will have to forgo Freddie for a week. Boo-hoo.

Dr R also looked up party favors and gave me a good idea for that. I won't say what it was, so the people who read my blog can be surprised if they are also coming to the party.

Friday, October 23rd

Mom visited me after lunch after she had finished voting. Actually, what she had done was investigate through Civil Beat and a friend how to vote, and then she filled out her ballot when she was with me. She also got my ballot and filled it out the same way, which is what I would have done if I could physically fill it in myself. It felt a little empty, but I did feel good about actually voting. Hawaiʻi is not a very consequential place to vote.

Saturday, October 24th

My sister visited, and we had more discussions about my party. I had set the guest count at 60 people, and she was arguing for me to make it 55. I am sometimes overly optimistic, but I want there to be a lot of people, and I want the option to invite as many people as I please. In addition, I am looking forward to leftovers for myself and for people at Leahi who can't make it, so I don't mind at all if there is a big gap between how many people they cook for and how many people there are. I'm going to be extravagant!

Sunday, October 25th

Mom came by after church, and we talked and played games. I frankly don't remember what else happened that day. Sorry!

The cover photo this week is the invitation I made for my party! If you are reading this, consider this your invitation! I really like how it came out. I made the most out of using different fonts, but I think it works. I get more excited every day as I carefully plan every aspect of the night! I'm sure it will be fun!

Have a fabulous week!
